Fall Retreat

This past weekend I went to the Quilted Kitty’s Fall Retreat. This was my first ever quilting retread & I had a blast! I can’t wait to go on more of these!

We stayed at Camp Rivercrest in Fremont, NE which reminded me so much of Glen Lake camp that I attended as a kid. We had the beautiful lodge below to ourselves. Up stairs was full of tables so each quilter could spread out her project. There was a mini kitchen as well as a design wall & plenty of ironing boards. I set up my spot right by the HUGE stone fireplace! Downstairs were the rooms with our bunks which stayed nice & cool through the evening.

Here are some views from the back of the lodge:

The camp had wonderful Adirondack chairs on the deck to relax on & watch the deer!

The purpose of the retreat was to get some quilting done & I have to say I was very successful! I chose to bring a project I haven’t looked at since we lived in Alaska- figuring the weekend would give me time to focus on figuring out where I was & what I needed to do. I didn’t finish the quilt top, but I got a lot of blocks finished. Only 16 more to go! (In a quilt that has over 200 blocks, I’m doing pretty well.)

The quilt shop workers had a puzzle going on one of the tables, which of course I couldn’t stay away from. It was a great distraction when I needed a break from triangles!

There were optional projects to complete- a fall wall hanging & a Christmas surprise. I loved the fact that there wasn’t any pressure to participate- so I continued to work on my UFO.

There were some optional games- a decorate your bunk contest & fancy slipper contest! Both were fun & had some creative entrants! There was also a game of QUILTO which I won some fat quarters (think BINGO with quilting terms).

The food was fantastic! It was served up in the dining hall so it gave us a chance to get some fresh air. I don’t think I’ve eaten so many sweets in quite a while!

At the closing brunch I won the cute table centerpiece that was a quilted basket full of fun notions! I can’t wait to try out the 60wt thread & the thread heaven!

The most amazing part of the retreat where the other ladies. I’ve never been with a group of such great women! They were all supportive and encouraging. Even though I was so tired from the weekend (napped for 5 hrs after getting home, ate dinner & went straight to bed), I feel so refreshed & excited to quilt! I can’t wait for the spring retreat!
